The Yarra Valley ECOSS Native Plant Nursery is propagating a selection of local native plants in tubes from locally-collected seeds.
The Native Plants Nursery is not only providing a source of native plants for local re-vegetation projects but is being utilised for education and training in plant propagation.
The nursery is open to schools and community organisations to visit and learn about the propagation and growing of native plants. Interested parties need to contact the office on 03 5967 2416 prior to visiting.
Local native plants are often neglected by commercial nurseries though they offer a wealth of interesting diverse species that thrive in the environment they have adapted to over thousands of years. Local plants are more suited to the soil, weather, rainfall, pollinators and fit in with the bio-diversity of the region. This means they need less water, fertiliser, protection from frost and other adverse elements.
Native tube stock are suited for use in shelter belts, revegetation, roadside plantations, waterways, fauna havens, boundary planting for schools, homes and businesses, landscaping, erosion control, attracting birds, carbon offset.
Tube stock is available for sale at very reasonable prices.
